Our buying verdict

Shortlist the DCSNP2142Y2 for a paved route when DEWALT FLEXVOLT ownership, adjustable auger modes and convenient chute direction control matter. Compare it as a push single-stage machine, not as a wheel-driven two-stage replacement. Its value depends on the complete offer and the batteries you actually own. At our check, Amazon presented buying options rather than a normal featured offer, so compare authorized sellers before committing.

Reasons to shortlist it

  • A complete kit with the exact battery and charger models identified.
  • Electronic left/right chute paddles are useful when discharge direction changes frequently.
  • Dashboard separates battery charge, load, operating mode and fault information.
  • FLEXVOLT owners can evaluate battery reuse within the approved system.

Tradeoffs to consider

  • Standard 20V MAX-only batteries are not the required FLEXVOLT system.
  • The operator still pushes; powered chute rotation is not self-propelled travel.
  • Maximum throw and coverage claims are condition-dependent, not our test results.
  • The checked Amazon kit page had buying options without a featured offer.

Who should consider this DEWALT snow blower?

The most convincing buyer is someone with a paved driveway, a manageable recurring snow workload and an existing reason to stay in the DEWALT FLEXVOLT system. A 21-inch clearing path can fit ordinary residential routes without the storage demands of a much wider two-stage machine. That is a fit argument, not a claim that this is the best snow blower for every property. Start with the difficult part of your route: the tight turn beside a car, an uneven pavement joint or the compacted deposit at the street.

We would not buy it solely because other yellow tools are already in the garage. Check their battery labels first. A drill powered by a conventional 20V MAX battery does not establish that you own the packs recommended for this machine. If your main problem is pushing through demanding recurring snow, compare the RYOBI RY408150 two-stage review and our heavy, wet snow guide. A different machine class may matter more than brand loyalty.

BUYING CHECKCompare voltage and Ah together

Do not compare a 12Ah-at-20V label directly with a 12Ah-at-another-voltage pack.

What the DCSNP2142Y2 kit actually includes

DEWALT identifies DCSNP2142Y2 as the kit with the DCSNP2142B machine, two DCB612 FLEXVOLT batteries, two DCB1104 chargers and the discharge chute assembly. Keep the kit identifier and machine identifier together when shopping or ordering parts. The bare-tool suffix B is not a discounted version of the complete package; it excludes the batteries and chargers that make the kit comparison meaningful.

The manufacturer describes the packs as 60V MAX 4.0Ah, while the kit graphic displays their familiar 12Ah labeling. These describe different FLEXVOLT configurations of the same battery, not three times as much stored energy in one offer. Compare battery capacity at the voltage used by the tool. Do not add the two voltage labels and call this a 120V snow blower, or promise a runtime by adding amp-hour numbers. Our snowblower battery checklist explains why compatibility, capacity and pack quantity are separate questions.

Push operation, steel auger and manufacturer claims

The operator manual describes the shave plate contacting the pavement as the machine is pushed. There is no powered wheel-drive control in the documented layout. A brushless motor drives the auger; it does not remove the work of moving the machine forward. That distinction is important for anyone buying after seeing electric chute controls or assuming every battery snow blower is self-propelled.

DEWALT advertises a 7-inch steel auger, throwing distance up to 40 feet and a coverage example of 16 parking spaces with six inches of snow. These are manufacturer claims, not results measured here. We would not convert parking spaces into a guaranteed driveway area or compare that example directly with another brand’s car-count claim. Snow density, wind, repeated handling and battery condition can change the job. Even a compact route may call for a different machine if the difficult plow deposit dominates every clearing session. See our single-stage versus two-stage guide before choosing around maximum throwing distance.

Compare the exact offer

Match the exact kit, included battery and charger models, condition and seller. Amazon showed buying options without a featured offer when checked October 7, 2026. Offers and availability can change.

Dashboard and chute: convenient, but not fully automatic

The documented modes are Eco, Standard and Max Power. Eco reduces auger speed and power for lighter conditions; Max Power increases them and reduces runtime. Standard is the starting mode. This is useful control over the work rate, not free additional power with no battery tradeoff. The dashboard also includes a high-load indication. We see that as a reason to pay attention to feed rate, rather than continuing to push faster because a higher mode is available.

Direction and pitch are adjusted differently. Left/right dashboard paddles rotate the chute electrically, while the upper deflector angle is adjusted manually. Buyers who expect an electronic joystick to handle both dimensions should notice that distinction. The front lights aid visibility but do not guarantee a clear route or safe footing. Check the controls with winter gloves and understand the handle sensor before the first storm; a folded or incorrectly locked handle can prevent operation.

FLEXVOLT ownership: does tool-only actually save?

Battery routine, surface limits and maintenance

The manual recommends two DCB612 batteries. It says a single fully charged battery can operate the machine but is not recommended because runtime and performance are reduced. That is different from requiring a pair as an absolute starting condition, and it is not a reason to budget around single-pack use. Follow the model’s battery and charging instructions; do not substitute generic adapters or assume a smaller compatible pack reproduces the published coverage example.

The manual prohibits use on gravel and steep slopes. Plan around paved surfaces, sound footing and a safe discharge area. Battery power eliminates gasoline-engine service, but the shave plate, auger, fasteners, controls and safety devices still need inspection. Before maintenance, stop the machine, remove the safety key and batteries, and wait for moving parts to stop. Clear blockages only using the prescribed shutdown and clean-out procedure, never a hand in the chute. Save the manual and ask an authorized service center about persistent fault indications rather than bypassing a sensor.

Price, availability and useful alternatives

The exact Amazon page checked on October 7, 2026 identified DCSNP2142Y2 but showed See All Buying Options, not a standard featured offer. Our buttons link to that exact listing with the affiliate tag. A matching page does not verify every seller’s bundle or warranty eligibility. Confirm two DCB612 batteries, two DCB1104 chargers, condition, delivery charges, returns and authorized-seller status. Compare the quote with the manufacturer’s retail channels rather than assuming the first visible offer is attractive.

For another compact battery platform, read our SKIL SB2001C-10 review. For auger-assisted movement on pavement, compare the EGO SNT2125AP, while recognizing that auger assistance is not powered wheel drive. For a short paved route with suitable outlet access, the corded Westinghouse WSnow22 offers a different ownership calculation. The DEWALT earns its place when its specific controls and FLEXVOLT package fit your routine—not simply because its voltage number is larger.

8 frequently asked questions

What is included with DCSNP2142Y2?

DEWALT lists the DCSNP2142B snow blower, two DCB612 FLEXVOLT batteries, two DCB1104 chargers and the discharge chute assembly. Confirm the selected seller’s itemized bundle; DCSNP2142B alone is the bare tool.

Are the included batteries 4Ah or 12Ah?

Both labels refer to different FLEXVOLT configurations. DEWALT rates the DCB612 at 4Ah in the 60V MAX configuration used here; its prominent 12Ah label relates to the 20V MAX configuration. Compare Ah ratings at the relevant voltage.

Can I use normal DEWALT 20V MAX batteries?

No. The snowblower manual specifies the DEWALT FLEXVOLT battery system and recommends DCB612 packs. A conventional 20V MAX-only battery is not the required system. Do not use an adapter to force compatibility.

Will it operate with only one battery?

The manual says a single fully charged battery can operate the machine, but does not recommend it because performance and runtime are reduced. Plan around the recommended two DCB612 packs, not the minimum possible configuration.

Is this snow blower self-propelled?

It is an operator-pushed single-stage machine, not a powered-wheel-drive model. The electronic chute paddles control discharge direction; they do not propel the wheels.

Are both chute direction and angle electronic?

No. Rotation is electronic through left/right paddles. Chute pitch—the upper deflector angle—is adjusted manually. Check the manual’s adjustment procedure before operation.

Can it clear gravel or steep slopes?

The manual prohibits gravel use and says not to operate on steep slopes. Choose around the exact surface restrictions and your ability to maintain footing, rather than assuming a steel auger suits every driveway.

Is the linked Amazon kit currently available?

The exact kit listing showed buying options at our October 7, 2026 check, without a normal featured offer. Compare the current seller, complete bundle, condition, delivery and return terms; availability can change.

Should you buy it?

Choose DCSNP2142Y2 if a push single-stage design suits your paved route and its FLEXVOLT kit and chute controls justify the total cost. Count batteries by the correct voltage configuration and compare actual seller offers. If pushing, gravel or recurring dense plow deposits are the real problem, solve that machine-fit question before buying into the platform.
