EGO SNS1201 Review: Is This Snow Shovel Right for You?

Snow removal · Research-based review · November 2, 2026

A snow shovel for a smaller clearing route.

The EGO SNS1201 is worth considering for a sidewalk, patio, or short path to the car. Its compact format is appealing when a full-size snow blower feels excessive—but the amount of snow, repeated passes, and carrying weight still matter.

Our verdict: shortlist it for manageable, paved clearing jobs. Compare a larger machine if your main problem is a broad driveway, demanding storms, or a recurring frozen plow ridge.

Who should consider the EGO SNS1201?

Start with the route you actually need to open after a snowfall. A front walk and small patio are a different purchase decision from a wide driveway with several parked cars. The shovel’s narrow working path can be useful in confined spaces, but covering a wider area means making more passes.

A sensible shortlist for

  • Short paved walks and small patios.
  • A home with limited equipment storage.
  • An EGO owner comparing a bare tool against another complete kit.
  • A smaller secondary route alongside a larger snow-clearing setup.

Reasons to compare other options

  • A broad area that needs many overlapping passes.
  • Recurring packed snow or a frozen plow pile.
  • A gravel route or difficult discharge location.
  • A tiny, occasionally snowy area where a manual shovel may be sufficient.

Those are buying judgments, not measured performance results. Compact storage alone does not prove that the tool will save you effort on your property. Think about carrying it outside, turning it at the end of each pass, and putting it away afterward.

SNS1201 vs. SNS1200: choose the right package

The SNS1201 is the battery-and-charger kit. The SNS1200 is the tool-only version. This is EGO’s standalone snow shovel; it does not require buying a separate multi-head power unit. Do not confuse it with a snow-shovel attachment for that system.

PackageWhat you getWhen to compare it
SNS1201 kitSnow shovel, 56V 2.5Ah battery and charger. You need a complete starting setup or want an additional battery.
SNS1200 tool onlySnow shovel. Battery and charger are not included. You already have compatible EGO batteries and charging equipment.

Compare the complete cost rather than assuming the bare tool is automatically the better value. An extra battery may be useful, but only if it suits the rest of your equipment and your charging routine. Check the selected model, included pack, charger, seller, return terms, and warranty eligibility before ordering.

Check the charger in the exact listing. EGO’s product page specifies a 210W charger, while its 2026 catalog identifies a 320W charger for this kit. We have not resolved that discrepancy for every retailer’s inventory. The standard CH2100 charger’s approximately 50-minute estimate for a depleted 2.5Ah pack should not be applied to every possible bundle.

3 questions before buying a snow shovel

01 · Route

How much pavement do you need to clear, and how many passes will it take?

02 · Landing area

Where can the snow go without hitting people, vehicles, or neighboring property?

03 · Handling

Can you comfortably carry, turn, and store the complete tool and battery?

The important limit is your layout

The manual describes applications such as walkways and patios with snow under 6 inches deep. EGO separately advertises clearing up to a 3-car driveway in 6 inches of snow with the included battery. Treat the latter as a manufacturer capacity claim, not a promise that your own driveway will be finished on one charge.

Snow depth is only part of the job. Wetness, compaction, repeated passes, and where you can discharge the snow all affect whether a small tool is a practical choice. We would plan around a manageable route rather than buying at the edge of an advertised maximum.

A maximum throw of up to 25 feet does not solve every placement problem. On a narrow walk between a fence and a parked car, the useful question is whether there is an appropriate open landing area. Wind can also make the intended direction less useful. Follow the manual’s guidance on clearing loose objects and keeping people away from the discharge.

If your main concern is a larger route or difficult winter conditions, start with our single-stage vs. two-stage electric snow blower guide. For two larger EGO options, read the SNT2416 vs. SNT2807 comparison.

Weight, storage and ownership

A folding shaft makes the SNS1201 easier to fit into some storage spaces, but it is still equipment you must handle. The published 16.7-pound figure includes the 2.5Ah battery. Consider that complete weight, not just the word “compact,” when deciding whether the format suits you.

The two-speed selector gives another way to adjust the discharge for the task. It does not remove the need to plan your route. For occasional light clearing in a very small space, the cost, charging, and storage of a powered tool may be harder to justify than a regular shovel.

EGO lists a 5-year limited tool warranty and a 3-year limited battery warranty for this kit. Read the applicable terms and keep your purchase documentation. For use and maintenance, follow the current manual: stop the tool and remove the battery before clearing a blockage, and never put your hands into the auger.

Questions before you buy

Does the EGO SNS1201 include a battery and charger?

Yes. SNS1201 is the kit with a 2.5Ah battery and charger. Confirm the charger supplied in the exact listing because the product page and 2026 catalog differ.

What is the difference between SNS1201 and SNS1200?

The package. SNS1200 is sold without a battery or charger; SNS1201 includes them. Compare the tool-only offer if you already own suitable EGO equipment.

Do I need an EGO multi-head power unit?

No. This is the standalone snow shovel. EGO also sells separate snow-shovel attachments, which should not be confused with the SNS1200/SNS1201.

Can it replace a snow blower?

It may cover a short, manageable paved route, but that does not make it a universal substitute. Compare a full-size machine for broader areas or demanding conditions, and a manual shovel for tiny, occasional jobs.

Have you tested it in wet snow?

No. This review is based on documented specifications and the operator’s manual. We do not have measured wet-snow results, runtime data, or a hands-on comparison to report.

Our recommendation

The EGO SNS1201 earns a place on the shortlist when a smaller clearing route and compact storage are the real priorities. Make the decision around the route, the snow’s landing area, and the weight you will handle. If those do not fit, a more powerful machine—or a simple manual shovel—may be the more sensible purchase.
