18-INCH / SINGLE-STAGE / TWO 24V PACKS
Snow Joe 24V-X2-SB18 Review: A Compact 48V Snow Blower Kit?
A compact cordless candidate for a short paved route—not a substitute for a powered-wheel two-stage machine in frequent heavy snow.
Research-based buying review. We have not hands-on tested this model. Manufacturer claims and our buying judgments are identified below.

Our buying verdict
Shortlist the SB18 if an 18-inch machine fits the route and you want to clear without managing an extension cord. Its most important ownership detail is that both included batteries work together: they are not a working pack and a spare. For repeated dense driveway-end piles, a long route or a need for powered wheels, compare a two-stage machine before choosing on price alone.
Published specifications, not our measured results. Model specification reference ↗.
Reasons to shortlist it
- Complete 4Ah kit has an exact Amazon destination, rather than a generic brand search.
- Narrower clearing path can be relevant for small paved routes and storage access.
- Both pack and charger models are identified in the current operator manual.
- Rubber-tipped auger and adjustable chute suit a pavement-focused shortlist.
Tradeoffs to consider
- User-pushed: there is no separate powered-wheel drive to remove pushing work.
- Both packs are needed together; one spare pack is not a complete replacement set.
- An intake dimension does not prove deep, wet or refrozen snow will clear easily.
- The marketplace seller must be checked for warranty eligibility; we have not verified its authorized status.
Who is the 18-inch Snow Joe actually for?
The useful starting point is the job you want to simplify. If you repeatedly clear a short paved driveway, a walkway and a small pad, a compact machine deserves consideration. An 18-inch pass is narrower than many 21- or 22-inch alternatives; that is not automatically a drawback when access is tight or the machine must fit beside other equipment. For a broad driveway, the extra passes become part of the cost in effort and time.
We would not describe it as a universally suitable small-property snow blower. Small properties can still collect dense plow piles, and an awkward slope or limited turning room can matter more than square footage. Our fit judgment is for a manageable paved route and an owner willing to clear at a pace the snow conditions allow. Start with the snowblower buying guide if you are still deciding between corded, cordless and two-stage designs.
Two batteries do not mean one spare
The first compatible IONMAX battery supplies part of the operating system.
The second matching battery is also required—not held back as a spare.
Plan a matching pair for a second clearing session. Do not mix pack capacities.
Understand the paired-battery system before buying spares
The current SB18 operator manual identifies two 24VBAT packs and a 24VCHRG-DPC dual-port charger. It requires both batteries together and matching voltage and capacity. A second pair is a different purchase from one spare battery. That matters when comparing a kit price with a tool-only offer, or planning how to finish the sidewalk after the driveway.
Do not read the two 4Ah labels as an 8Ah battery or compare that sum directly with another brand’s pack. The same manual excludes 24V IONMAX batteries rated 8.0Ah and above. Physical fit and the approved pack list matter; a larger battery that works in another Joe tool is not automatically usable here. Avoid cross-brand adapters and resolve spare-pack compatibility with the manufacturer before spending money.
What the auger, intake and chute numbers do—and do not—tell you
The specification sheet describes a rubber-tipped steel auger and an adjustable discharge chute. Those details help explain the design, but they do not supply a measured clearing rate for your driveway. This is a single-stage machine you guide and push. Clearing snow and moving the machine are separate questions; cordless operation does not mean self-propelled travel.
The published snow-cut dimension is not a promise to clear an equally deep, compacted bank in one effortless pass. Wet snow, frozen layers, available throwing space and battery condition all change the job. We have not measured snow throughput or throwing distance. If large plow piles are the recurring problem, compare the Toro e26 two-stage review or the EGO SNT2416 review rather than treating the SB18’s lower entry price as a complete answer.

Compare the exact offer
Exact new Amazon kit checked October 11, 2026; offer from Solutions by Staples. Manufacturer-authorized seller status was not independently verified. Match both packs and the charger, and distinguish the CT tool-only and other suffix bundles.
Charging and cold-weather ownership need their own plan
A convenient cordless routine begins before the storm. Keep the charging location dry and within the temperature conditions listed for the supplied batteries and charger. An unheated shed is not automatically an approved charging location, and a wet or frozen battery should not be treated as ready simply because the indicator has lights. Follow the manual’s temperature warnings and ask the brand for clarification if the supplied documentation is unclear for your climate.
After clearing, inspect the auger, scraper and battery compartments, and store the equipment as instructed. Brushless is a motor description, not a maintenance-free promise. Start with a quick visual check before each use, and deal with loose hardware, damage or abnormal vibration before running again. We would value a workable charging and storage location more than an advertised runtime figure that has not been tested under matching conditions.
The compact-kit buying checklist
Match the exact SKU, two batteries, charger, condition and seller. CT, GO, TV1 and XR offers can differ.
Check your narrowest opening, where snow will land and where you can turn without backing into traffic.
Allow room for two packs, regular inspection and the manual’s indoor charging and storage requirements.
Shopping status, package differences and warranty eligibility
Checked October 11, 2026: the exact new 24V-X2-SB18 Amazon kit showed an offer from Solutions by Staples. The listing identifies two 4Ah batteries; its contents should be matched against the included manual and selected offer. We have not independently verified the seller’s manufacturer-authorized status. Availability is a snapshot, not a promise of delivery for the next snowfall.
The manufacturer’s current All Season Power warranty page lists a two-year category term for 24V products, with household-use, proof-of-purchase and authorized-seller conditions. It says the current policy supersedes printed manual warranty language. Do not assume a refurbished unit, older warehouse stock or a third-party protection plan has the same manufacturer coverage. CT is tool-only; other SB18 suffixes can change included batteries or accessories. Compare the delivered package, not just the first low price in a search result.
Alternatives: change the design only when the job requires it
For a short route with access to a suitable outlet, the corded Snow Joe SJ627E is a different ownership approach: no battery recharge plan, but a cord and its operating constraints. For a wider paved route and an existing Greenworks 60V battery platform, the 22-inch SN60L522 kit is another useful comparison. It is still a user-pushed single-stage machine, not a two-stage upgrade.
Our preference would be to settle the route, surface, pushing effort and charging plan first, then compare like-for-like complete offers. An occasional snowfall and a reliable backup shovel may justify a different decision from frequent storms with a time-sensitive commute. Keep a fallback clearing method in the plan while you learn how any new machine handles the actual snow you receive.
8 frequently asked questions
Does the Snow Joe 24V-X2-SB18 include batteries and a charger?
The reviewed Amazon kit identifies two 24V 4Ah batteries and a charger; the current model manual lists two 24VBAT packs and the 24VCHRG-DPC dual-port charger. Confirm the selected seller’s package. The CT version is tool-only, and other suffixes can change the bundle.
Can I operate it with just one battery?
No. The current SB18 manual requires both batteries together and matching voltage and capacity. Treat a spare pair as a complete extra set rather than assuming one additional pack will provide a second full session.
Can I fit larger 8Ah or 12Ah IONMAX batteries?
The current model manual excludes 24V IONMAX packs rated 8.0Ah and above, and the manufacturer unit page specifically excludes XR8 and XR12. Check the approved pack list instead of assuming that every battery in the broader platform will fit.
Is the SB18 self-propelled?
No. It is a user-pushed single-stage snow blower. Its powered auger moves snow; it does not give the machine a separate powered-wheel drive. Compare a self-propelled two-stage model if pushing effort is a central concern.
Will it clear wet snow or a hard plow bank?
We have not tested either condition with this model. The nominal intake and throw figures are not guarantees for dense or refrozen snow. For recurring hard driveway-end piles, compare a two-stage machine and keep expectations separate from the advertised dimensions.
Would you choose it for a gravel driveway?
Our shortlist is for paved routes. The manual includes loose-material precautions and instructions for gravel, but that is not evidence of reliable gravel clearing by us. Loose stones can be thrown. If gravel is your main job, compare a machine with an appropriate setup and obtain manufacturer or dealer guidance.
Can I store the batteries in the machine all winter?
Do not leave the packs installed in storage; the model manual specifies removal and dry indoor storage, with battery temperature precautions. Follow the battery and charger instructions for charging and seasonal storage rather than using a generic advice rule from another brand.
What warranty should I expect from an Amazon seller?
Check the current All Season Power policy and seller eligibility before ordering. The published 24V category term is two years for qualifying new products, not a blanket promise for every marketplace listing. Keep the receipt and distinguish manufacturer coverage from a retailer protection plan.
Should you buy it?
The SB18 is worth comparing as a compact cordless kit for a manageable paved route. Its paired-battery requirement and seller eligibility deserve attention before checkout. Choose it because the narrower format fits your work—not because a 10-inch snow-cut specification proves it replaces a two-stage machine.
